Martyn is key founder and Chief Scientist for ARTIS managing the team of 12 staff to deliver the service required by the clients. He brings over 29 years of experience in R & D roles within the rubber industry.
Martyn’s experience covers many aspects of polymer science and technology including rheology and processing, compounding and quality control, structure property relationships, materials characterisation, experimental design and performance modelling. It covers multiple industry sectors from tyres to defence, offshore and signature management, FMCG to automotive. In particular recycling and sustainability are very close to his heart with ARTIS now world experts in recovered carbon and pyrolysis optimisation.
Martyn delivered pioneering work in flow modelling of rubber and electrochemical degradation and has provided robust defence in legal arguments with major automotive OEMs and FMCG suppliers, the largest being a potential claim for over £50m.
Martyn sits on advisory boards for Loughborough and Queen Mary Universities, the Knowledge Transfer Network and Institute of Materials and the BSI committee for testing of rubber. Martyn regularly contributes to Industry Events, is a fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and was joint author of the paper winning the IOM3 Alan Glanville award in 2015 and winner of the Hancock Medal in 2016.
