ARTIS’ own Stephen Millington recently presented at theEuradh 2016 conference in Glasgow, detailing work carried out at ARTIS looking at the development and assessment of adhesive systems for “Bond & Bolt” gas pipe saddles. The use of bonded and bolted saddles to access subterranean gas pipes for internal inspection, leakage repair, and flow stopping offers considerable cost savings and reductions in traffic disruption. The adhesive systems used for this application are required to operate for at least 50 years in an environment where the most likely form of attack comes from the high moisture content of waterlogged soil. This paper will discuss the development of candidate adhesives based on a range of different polymer systems and will also present the results of work undertaken to assess the resistance of these adhesives to a typical operating environment. The presentation covering the work involved can be downloaded below, alternatively if you would like more information regarding this work
