Ahmed Joined ARTIS in 2012 following a successful academic career at London Metropolitan University spanning 26 years as PhD student and Academic Senior Lecturer and Quality Coordinator in Rubber Research. Ahmed has published over 25 academic papers on various aspects of rubber science and technology and supervised 4 PhD research programmes. Ahmed’s own PhD allowed him to develop extensive knowledge of sealing materials for natural gas pipeline applications. Ahmed is one of the few people in the UK that fully understands the chemistry of rubber systems and is able to apply that knowledge to developing new materials for clients to solve difficult applications. Ahmed has also spent time at Liverpool University studying fracture behaviour of rubber-modified nylon systems using electron microscopy.
Around his academic career, Ahmed worked in the medical and rubber footwear industries providing technical expertise and experience as polymer technologist and working on process control in manufacturing operations.
Ahmed is widely known and respected throughout the industry and his skills and expertise are being used in ARTIS to deliver a first rate compound development service to the clients, drawing on his expertise and the diverse background of our parent company.
Ahmed also has the role of training coordinator, and has developed an industry leading short course in rubber technology. This is one of the only courses to have significant hands on practical engagement and gives the clients a unique opportunity to engage with the materials and staff in a live lab/factory environment. His role in the team includes the development of new training opportunities and courses to benefit the active workforce in the industry.
